Motherhood and Matrescence

I have a long-standing interest in offering emotional support to parents, in particular, mums and mums-to-be. This has been reinforced by the challenges of my own journey into motherhood, and the recognition that many of us need more support at this crucial period of time.

Matrescence is the transformative process of becoming a mother, involving a series of profound shifts in all aspects of our lives. While the physical and social changes are often discussed and anticipated, the emotional and psychological changes may be different from expected, and can sometimes feel overwhelming and quite destabilising. Building an understanding of these processes can help normalise the complex and sometimes contradictory emotions experienced. And importantly, offer support in the knowledge that you are not going through this alone.

The transition to motherhood is different for each of us. It can be challenging in numerous ways, and having a confidential space just for yourself can be essential to finding your way through this period.

  • Has your experience of becoming a mum been different to what you expected?

  • Are you struggling with the shift in identity, feeling overwhelmed or that you no longer know who you are?

  • Did you have a challenging pregnancy or a difficult birth?

I have several years’ experience working specifically in the provision of antenatal and postnatal support to mothers, and can offer support with the following:

  • Birth trauma processing

  • Pregnancy or infant loss

  • Fertility issues

  • Perinatal mental health: anxiety, depression, or feelings of anger and rage

  • Own childhood traumas, which can often come to the fore again at this time

  • Support for parents, including of children with disabilities / additional needs /neurodiversity

I’d be happy to hear from you and discuss how we might work together.
